2022 World Cup Is Shuttling Guests Around In Electric Cars & Buses

Qatar will soon be under the spotlight of the world in November with the hosting of the World Cup. The country has contracted Hyundai to supply 236 electric cars and buses, making up half of the vehicles provided for the championship, that its guests will use to get around to ensure sustainability during the games.
 
The company is sending over its Genesis GV70 EV, Genesis G80 EV, and Hyundai IONIQ 5 electric vehicles. Along with 10 Elec City electric buses, Sonata, Tucson, and Kona hybrids will also be available for the duration of the games to charter VIP visitors, team members, and even journalists.
 
At the same time, FIFA is doing its part by including a new network of chargers with a power source of up to 150 kW at parking facilities.

And as much as Qatar will be under keen eyes for how the games play out, so will Hyundai and its transportation system. To ensure everything goes well, Hyundai has set up a dedicated organization to oversee the project. 
 
The company is set to monitor its fleet in real-time to rectify any mishaps quickly should an accident happen.

Hyundai will station IONIQ 5’s on hand to deploy in case a car needs to be recharged in an emergency. This can be done by utilizing the company’s Vehicle-to-Load technology. Staff members will also be sent to the championship and situated in a Quality Situation Room in the FIFA parking areas to oversee the operation.
 
On top of that, Hyundai has sent its designated drivers out for training to prepare them to handle the EVs better.
