Last month, McDonald’sannounced it was partnering streetwear brand Cactus Plant Flea Market to launch retro-inspired toys for grownup versions of Happy Meals, bringing back key characters Hamburglar, Grimace, and Birdie.
It certainly seems the nostalgic collection has hit the spot with customers, not only selling out at many of the restaurant’s outlets across the United States, but being relisted on the secondary market for thousands of dollars.
Yup, those who’ve managed to get their hands on the sought-after collectibles have taken to eBay and other resale sites to hawk the limited-edition goods, with CNBC reporting one particular seller listed an unopened trio for US$300,000.95.
“Super rare limited edition… will sell fast!” the listing reads, though it is now marked as sold for a “best offer price,” which remains undisclosed.
At the moment, it appears the highest price paid for the toys stands at US$2,400—still an astonishing sum—for a listing that comprised 150 sealed toys, averaging US$16 each. Other similar collections have sold for as much as US$1,900.
With the incredible popularity of the release, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to think McDonald’s may just release another adult’s Happy Meal collection in the near future. Better luck next time.
