While much of the internet has been caught up in discourse over Taylor Swift’s new album, Midnights, there’s a subsection of the pop star’s fandom that isn’t just obsessing over her new tracks, but rather, a chic casket featured in a music video. You could say audiences would literally die for it.
It appears a copper steel coffin from direct-to-consumer casket brand Titan has gone viral overnight, having made an appearance in the video of Anti-Hero, where Swift stars alongside comedians Mike Birbiglia, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, and John Early.
The scene, portraying Swift’s funeral, depicts mourners sitting in front of the aesthetically-pleasing casket, of which the musician eventually pops out.
According to Highsnobiety, Titan co-founder Joshua Siegel clarified that the company did not pay for the product placement.
Instead, it was the production company that ordered the coffin in July. Unknown to the brand, it would be used in a video by one of the “most famous and universally liked artists on the planet.”
An employee of the firm spotted the casket’s prominent appearance, leading to Titan releasing a statement spotlighting the exact model used. It hopes to bring attention to its mission of providing coffins online for half the price of one typically found in a funeral home.
We’re no doubt used to the numerous paid product advertisements within music videos, but a casket that unwittingly goes viral? Now that’s new.
