To commemorate World Pasta Day this year, Barilla has launched a campaign spotlighting a type of pasta dish many take for granted: leftovers.
In collaboration with advertising agency Publicis Italy / LePub, the food brand has taken to social media to show customers how they can turn second-day noodles into delicious meals.
“World Pasta Day is not only about celebrating pasta. It’s the perfect moment for giving it a second life,” the company wrote on Instagram.
With the ever-increasing costs of living, it’s only natural the topic of saving food is at the forefront of people’s minds. Food wastage is a key problem, with the US Department of Agriculture estimating 30% to 40% of the food supply isn’t consumed—or about 133 billion pounds and US$161 billion worth of food.
That’s where sustainable cooking comes in, with Barilla leading the charge in the form of TikTok ‘hacks’ inspired by the longstanding Italian tradition of creating new recipes from leftover pasta dishes.
The firm is challenging fans to come up with the most creative ways to remix yesterday’s dinner, compiling the recipes from some of the platform’s most popular food content creators in a digital cookbook.
As the brand puts it, “pasta always deserves a second chance.”
