Sony Introduces Camera AI That Recognizes Humans—Even When They Look Away
Sony’s latest addition to its mirrorless camera collection is the ‘A7R V’ which melds AI technology and advanced photography to create a device that is sure to be a boon to any action-loving photographer.
The A7R V retains the same 61-megapixel resolution as the A7R IV released in 2019. However, it builds upon it by including a Bionz XR processor, which produces 8K 24p films, and an LCD touch-screen panel on a 4-point axis for simple picture evaluation and editing.
Its most shining improvement is the addition of Sony’s dedicated AI processing unit which would make this the first camera by the brand to receive such an upgrade. Dubbed ‘human pose estimation’, the algorithm uses 20 different points to determine where the eyes are as the subjects move around.
Per the official teaser (see below), the tech recognizes subject even when they look away or “when faces are obscured.”
In addition, according to Hypebeast, the AI is able to follow their movements even if the photographed person leaves the frame completely for a brief moment.
Beyond humans, the autofocus tech also works on animals and objects too. Those who take part in photographing the great outdoors may now find it easier to capture birds, insects, and other animals in their natural habitats. Also, cars, trains, and planes will be a breeze to capture.
The A7R V can shoot up to 10 fps and capture 583 raw files simultaneously. Its stabilization capabilities have also been improved from 5.5 stops to eight.
Sony has also added an S & Q button on its hardware, allowing users to take time-lapses and slow-motion videos. And to make your workload more manageable, it has built-in WiFi for easy data transfer to your phone or PC.
Sony will launch the new camera in December, and available for pre-orders now at US$3,899.
