Nike’s New Sneakers Wear A Coin So Golden—The Swoosh Is Made A Pouch To Carry It

Nike kicks up the celebrations for 40 years of its Air Force 1 (AF1) with an exciting addition to the iconic collection.

Over the years, the AF1s have undergone numerous collaborations and redesigns, confirming its status as one of the most recognizable sneakers 40 years on, as the footwear is still making headlines.

Bruce Kilgore initially created it in the early 1980s, which has since become a standard in closets worldwide. In honor of this significant occasion in the history of the sneaker, Nike has switched up its Swoosh motif to act as a pocket.

Now, while not much can fit in the little coin-sized attachment, it was explicitly made to carry around the hang tag that comes with the kicks. A gold chain is attached to the shoe, with a basketball on one side of the pendant. The other side sports the Nike logo embossed into it.

Leave it to dangle freely if you wish to store something else of that size in the pocket. Other than that, you can tuck the charm in for safekeeping.

One version comes in the White Team Red colorway, distinguished by a wine-red sock lining and matching Swoosh. In addition, another variation dons a white logo with the same maroon lining. Finally, the shoe’s midsole aims for a more vintage aesthetic as it features an aged white coloring. And as any sneakerhead knows, a yellowed midsole can make or break a look.

In this case, it totally makes it.

Usually, Nike heads down the route of unique celebrity collaborations and quirky designs and colors for its AF1 redesigns. But, it is safe to say that while miniature, it leaves a big impression on those you pass by on the street as you walk by with your tiny keepsakes tucked into the Swoosh.

Sole Retriever estimates that the shoes will be launched in Spring 2023 and will retail for US$120.
