Since Elon Musk officially took over Twitter, it seems there are new changes coming to the social media platform every day.
Now, in a report by The Washington Post, it appears an internal email from the company hinted there could soon be a new feature that will allow users to place videos behind a paywall, aptly dubbed ‘Paywalled Video’ for the time being.
The publication noted that the change could be implemented as soon as in a couple of weeks, and that the network is keen to rush it out, though it remains unclear if the idea was conceived before or after Musk took over the helm.
However, it seems the team behind the feature isn’t too confident it’ll work, and has “identified the risk as high,” due to “risks related to copyrighted content, creator/user trust issues, and legal compliance.”
As such, Paywalled Video will undergo an internal review within the next few days before it’s confirmed. It’s believed that should the function be rolled out, creators will be able to choose from a preset list of prices behind which the videos will be made available.
A Twitter employee who spoke to the newspaper did speculate the feature could be partly used for adult content, which wouldn’t be a surprise, considering a recent Reuters report estimated as much as 13% of the platform is not safe for work.
Will this new addition really be rolled out to Twitter in the coming weeks? Well, with a proposal to charge verified users for their blue check marks already in place, no one can say for sure what other changes await the network.
