Basquiat’s Final Apartment & Art Studio Are Now Up For Rent At $60K Per Month

Located in downtown New York, the last residence and studio that the late Jean-Michel Basquiat once stayed in are now back on the market for rent. And at a hefty price at that.
 
The location is hosted by the Meridian Capital Group, and according to Daily Beast, it’s going for a cool US$51,000 per month plus US$9,000 in taxes to live within the walls of the famed artist.

Basquiat had stayed at 57 Great Jones Street between 1983 and 1988 and had been leasing it from his friend, Andy Warhol, until his final days.

The apartment is an open loft with high ceilings and skylights, and its second floor had once been used as Basquiat’s studio.

In 2016, the Village Preservation and Two Boots Pizza installed an honorary plaque dedicated to Basquiat and his services to the art community.

Just before it went back on the market, it used to house a Japanese restaurant called Bohemian, and as such, its listing states that it has venting, gas, and a large dining area to house customers. Although, if you do wish to use it for anything else, you will be free to do so.
