Renault Enlists Google To Build Smarter, ‘Software-Defined’ Vehicles

Renault and Google are making car updates and servicing much easier by providing a new cloud-based service known as ‘Software Defined Vehicle’ that allows users to check their vehicle’s vitals and upgrade its system online.
 
This new ‘Digital Twin’ aims to feature AI capabilities that will provide better service to Renault’s customers and new abilities to the cars.
 
Google Cloud technology is being employed to better manage the data and analytics captured from the car. Over time, this will inspire predictive maintenance, which will be able to tell drivers when their vehicles are experiencing problems in real time and will also be able to help them fix it over the cloud.
 
Vehicles installed with the system will also be able to personalize their onboard experiences and adapt their models to drivers’ needs. Renault hopes this will lead to more customizable car insurance based on the driver’s habits.

If all goes well, Renault hopes to bring its entire operation onto the cloud for easier usability, performance, and quality.
