Reebok & Eames Channel The Iconic Shell Chair In New Leather Sneakers
Reebok and design powerhouse Eames are stepping out together again for another collaboration, following the release of footwear that took inspiration from the Eames Elephant toy.
This time, the companies have looked to the furniture house’s mid-century fiberglass furniture for inspiration.
The Reebok x Eames Classic Leather Fiberglass Pack contains three kicks that embody the distinct straw-like texture of the visible raw fiberglass.
The sneakers take on a classic Reebok 80s silhouette and are splashed in the original three shades of the timeless shell-shaped furniture. The first is ‘Parchment’, one of the first colors used in Fiberglass Chairs back in 1950. This is followed by ‘Sea Foam Green’ and ‘Pink’.
Each shoe has a white rubber midsole and a gray outsole, and is also marked with an embossed Eames logo and an Eames keychain.
The collection is topped off with a box that looks like the Eames House in Los Angeles, or the Case Study House #8.
Looking at the chair itself, it was one of the first iterations of mass-produced seating after designers Charles and Ray Eames recognized the potential of fiberglass in producing a stable and elegant chair. It was first unveiled at the 1950 Museum of Modern Art International Competition for Low Cost Furniture Design.
The shoes are sold on both Reebok and Eames’ websites for US$120.
