Inflatable Two-Story Catamaran Can Shrink Down To Fit In Your Trunk

Most people who dream of a life at sea know how difficult it is to own a boat, be it from finding space at the marina or towing it down to the docks. It’s a hobby that not everyone has the time to indulge in—but what if you could own one that fits right in your attic?

Hungarian product design firm DDD Manufaktúra has created the Portless Catamaran, a flatpack boat of sorts that deflates to fit into any trunk so that you can toss it into your car along with your beach bag.
 
Once at the ocean, it blows up into a dual-deck cruiser powered by a solar panel. The entire thing only weighs 265 lbs and reaches 14.8 feet in height to accommodate six people.

Its main deck, measuring 97 square feet, is where most of the group will hang out. It is shaded by the top deck and includes an area to lounge in and dive into the water.
 
The top deck houses its solar panel and an area to sunbathe. It can hold up to 350 lbs and is accessed via a built-in ladder to the side wall of the boat.

 
DDD Manufaktúra posits that the cruiser can sail a total of 16 nautical miles, and on bright sunny days, its 200-W solar panel can speed at four knots along the water. While that isn’t the speed of a typical catamaran, it’s pretty impressive for something that can be transported to the beach in the back of your car.

The Portless Catamaran comes in two different arrangements: The basic version is a single-pieced body that inflates in 10 minutes; while the other comes in separate parts and requires a bit of assembling, though it does cut the weight by 66 lbs, making it lighter to carry around. DDD Manufaktúra also has a version that can seat eight people, but there is no mention of whether it can fit in a car.
 
Customers can also add other options, such as a 3-kW e-drive and a steering wheel.
 
Prices range between US$12,375 and can go up to US$23,750.
