Adidas x Rimowa Debut Nomadic Backpack & Sneakers Inspired By Luggage

Both approaching adventure in their own ways, Adidas and Rimowa have become unusual travel companions, teaming up to launch two contemporary twists to carry-alls and footwear.
The two German design icons have exchanged cultures—the luggage maker’s utilitarian ethos with the fashion brand’s sporty aesthetic—to bring Rimowa’s first-ever aluminum backpack and an Adidas sneaker that borrows elements from the signature suitcases.
The two-part capsule, wholly produced in Germany, strives to help urban explorers find “fulfillment in new places” while meaningfully drawing them closer to natural landscapes, according to a press release sent to DesignTAXI.
First up, the Rimowa x Adidas NMD_BACKPACK is an unmistakable double of Rimowa’s classic suitcases, with its grooved aluminum exterior and telescopic tubes. The first-ever Rimowa backpack sports a number of clever travel considerations for outdoor and overnight trips, including padded shoulder straps equipped with a carabin and thumb loops, along with rope weight-bearing straps and a grab handle.
Adidas’ influence can be seen in the foam ridges, reminiscent of its Boost foam, that cushion the grooved surface.
The bag can also be flat-packed by removing its detachable gusset. For travelers who can’t completely go off the grid, the sleek backpack has a pocket large enough for a 16-inch laptop.
The futuristic Adidas NMD_S1 silhouette reflects Rimowa’s titanium colorway and Adidas’ Primeknit uppers, with the Boost midsole splashed in a nearly translucent finish.
Orange shoelaces complete the look for these sneakers that tie expressions of a modern lifestyle with movement.
The Rimowa x Adidas pack will debut on November 17, with the NMD_S1 in Titanium sneakers arriving on the Adidas CONFIRMED app and Adidas.com, and the NMD_BACKPACK reaching Rimowa and Adidas’ stores worldwide and online in limited quantities.
