Subway Rolls Out Sandwich-Stocked Fridges That Understand You When You Talk
As part of its Subway Grab & Go offering for busy individuals, Subway is introducing interactive smart fridges stocked fresh daily with sandwiches from nearby restaurants.
That means no more having to wait in the queue for your order to be prepared, just simply grab, pay, and go.
According to the company, the first of its fully-unattended refrigerators was set up at the University of California San Diego in September, and features special artificial intelligence capabilities.
Intriguingly, the smart fridge is said to come equipped with natural language processing skills, allowing guests to talk to it directly and enquire about any of the products on sale.
Plus, weight-sensor shelves automatically charge customers the right amount, with a completely contactless and cashless transaction. UV-C light sanitation takes place after every purchase, so you don’t have to worry about someone else’s germs getting onto your sub.
Reporting that the Subway Grab & Go program has “quickly gained traction” among fans, the firm reveals it planned to expand from its current count of 400 locations across North America to more in the near future.
“As Subway continues to expand off-premises concepts, guests can expect to find Subway Grab & Go and smart fridges in more convenient everyday places like airports, college campuses, and hospitals,” the chain adds.
