Ferrari’s Only Factory-Painted Matte Black Enzo Speeds Into Auction

The only factory-made Ferrari Enzo hypercar in a sleek matte black is racing into Sotheby’s auction house this December after its owner decided to sell the unique one-of-one vehicle.
 
According to Motor Authority, Ferrari first created 400 versions of the Enzo, of which just 20 ‘Extracampionario’ vehicles were decked out in special coatings, in 2004. This rare hypercar is the only one manufactured in ‘Nero Opaco’, or Matte Black, finish. It also once belonged to a member of the royal family in Brunei.

 
The car had first spent time at the London residence of the Brunei royal family before it was flown down to the Asia Pacific region.

Over the years, it has gone through cosmetic restoration handled by Carrozzeria Zanasi, Ferrari’s official paint shop, and Tailor-Made vehicles for the Icona series cars. The work includes replacing interior switches, front and rear headlights, and the rear bonnet glass.
 
Interestingly enough, the vehicle has also been repainted in its original Nero Opaco finish. The move could raise eyebrows among auction-goers, as it’s not the original paint as when it first left the workshop in Maranello, Italy.
 

Outside of this, the automotive is still an awe-inspiring work of craftsmanship. The car’s body was made out of carbon fiber and designed by Pininfarina designer Ken Okuyama. Under its hood, it houses a six-liter V12 engine with 651 horsepower and 8,200 rpm. It also has a Formula 1-style automated manual transmission for its rear wheels.

The Enzo is set to go under the gavel from December 5 to 7, and given its royal history, one can only expect a royal number to match.
