Warner Bros’ 1989 Batmobile Car Is Going Under The Gavel To Find Its Next Hero

The 1989 Batmobile from Warner Bros Pictures seeks a new Bruce Wayne to be its owner. The iconic vehicle is going under the gavel for the first time since it left the movie lot. With an estimated price tag of US$1.5 million, it would take a billionaire superhero to come and rescue it.

The Batmobile is being sold under Classic Auto Mall for consignment after being featured in the Tim Burton-directed Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992). After its stint on the silver screen, the car was snatched up by New Jersey’s Six Flags theme park, where it was used as a prop for the Batman Returns ride.

Its next owner was a movie car collector who would often lease the vehicle out to the public on occasion.

The batmobile is a glossy black fiberglass machine with bat-winged fins on its back and a closed cockpit. It has a Daytona Prototype-like nose, 15-inch Mickey Thompson tires, and a jet engine mounted onto its center to help catch any shifty criminals out in Gotham.

Its interior features a dashboard fit for any genius billionaire turned superhero, with a litany of colored switches and bells covering it.

It was initially designed by illustrator Julian Caldow and built by John Evans with his SFX team at the Pinewood Studios in England. Now, before you go racing through your city fighting crime in this bad boy, it was only meant to be a prop car and has an electric engine with a top speed of 25-30 mph. Not precisely the crime-busting machine one would hope for, but it would make a cool addition to your collection.

You should be aware that Classic Auto Mall only offers this vehicle with a bill of sale and lacks a title, making it impossible for you to register it or use it on public roads.
