Zero-Emission Supercar With Synthetic FueI Is Ready For The Racetracks
Italian-American automaker De Tomaso is starting out strong in the race for cleaner vehicles with a carbon-neutral, fuel-powered, track-exclusive supercar.
The P900 is a 900 kg (1984 lbs) and 900 hp automotive made purely for speeding through racetracks like the famed Nürburgring in Germany, where it was assembled. What sets this vehicle apart from the rest is that it comes with what the company touts will be the “world’s first” carbon-neutral V12 engine.
The model will run on synthetic gas to power the car and allow it to rev up to 12,300 rpm on a 6.2-liter engine. Unfortunately, De Tomaso has decided to keep the full range of specs under lock and key and will only share them with selected people, including the future owners of the vehicles.
According to Interesting Engineering, CEO Norman Choi notes that the decision to use synthetic fuel is part of the company’s goal to achieve a zero-emission future without giving up a “crucial element” of racing: fuel.
In order to enhance the performance of the motorcar, the P900 was put under aerodynamics testing in Formula One’s wind tunnel. That’s not the only similarity it has to the pinnacle of motor racing, but the P900 is also said to feature a drag reduction system (DRS) on its rear wing, just like the Formula One cars.
The car was designed by Jowyn Wong and Jakub Jodlowski, the pair behind the company’s P72. This model will be rear-wheel drive only and feature a full carbon fiber exterior.
The P900 is set for a launch in Q2 of next year. Additionally, the brand will only make 18 versions of the automobile, each highly customizable to suit its owner. The vehicles will start at a base price of US$3 million.
