LG To Unveil Sleek Air Conditioner That Doubles As Personalized Art Frame

If you’re particular about the look of the chairs, wallpaper, and even speakers that fill up your space, it makes sense for other objects to fit into the aesthetic. Well, imagine snazzing up your room with matching cool art—and we mean that in the literal sense.

LG Electronics is preparing to unveil the latest edition of its ARTCOOL Gallery air conditioner at CES 2023 in Las Vegas from January 5, the company tells DesignTAXI in an email. As the name suggests, the device makes your AC unit less of a design afterthought by being pleasing on the eye and atmosphere.

Instead of being covered by an unsightly grill, the compact unit features a vibrant, 27-inch LCD screen to showcase artwork according to the season or your mood.

The South Korean tech firm has been rolling out variations of the cooling home appliance for years, but those are surrounded by a contrasting, rather jarring, black border. The latest will be the sleekest yet, as it sports more muted bezels to put paintings front and center. After all, you want to look at the art, not be distracted by the frame.

Previous models also required you to flip open the protective layer to replace the art, which—although mimics real picture frames—can be a little cumbersome. The upcoming edition lets you easily change up the vibe of your room at any time through the LG ThinQ app, where you’ll be able to cycle through personalized content to be digitally displayed on the LCD screen.

“On a bright LCD screen bordered by a simple, yet sophisticated frame, the ARTCOOL Gallery gives users the impression they are looking at a framed work of art rather than an advanced LG air conditioner,” LG describes.

Aesthetics aside, the AC unit is powered by a ‘Dual Inverter Compressor’ for energy-efficient cooling that uses up to 70% less power than conventional home air conditioners, says the company. The device also features a three-way airflow system to effectively disperse air throughout the room. Meanwhile, LG’s ‘AI Dry’ technology detects moisture that has formed inside the unit and wipes it off.

The last thing you want is for your art-viewing experience to be infiltrated by noise. LG says the new ARTCOOL Gallery maintains a peaceful indoor environment by keeping the noise level as low as 20 decibels and shutting the “hidden” bottom vane during sleep mode so as not to disrupt your slumber.
