Not everyone is into cracking the same puns again and again, but to each their own. Doubling down on its joke about getting Apple users “off the fence,” Samsung has unleashed a second commercial to prove its edge over the iPhone maker.
The latest spot in Samsung’s On the Fence series features a man sitting on the proverbial fence and watching in envy as another person fiddles with her Galaxy Z Flip 4. It turns out the person not seated on the fence (has this gotten old already?) is a former Apple user herself. “I used to be you—sitting on the fence between Apple and Samsung,” she says.
The man tells her he’s been thinking about hopping over to Samsung’s side for a while, but he’s afraid of being judged by fellow iPhone owners. The Samsung user assures him that shouldn’t be problem as they’ll likely be in awe of his new Z Flip 4 and will “never leave you alone.”
She passes him a flip phone, which catches the eye of two other Apple users, whose heads pop up behind the fence. They fawn over him. He enjoys the attention. “I could get used to this,” he declares, before eventually jumping off the fence.
The campaign aims to convince its audience that the Z Flip 4 is a more superior status symbol than the iPhone. “The Galaxy awaits you,” the advertisement notes.
While Android phone makers have been dishing out their own flexible gadgets for a few years now, Apple has been slow to the game. iPhone loyalists will probably have to exercise more patience, though, as the Cupertino giant is rumored to only be debuting its first handheld foldable in 2024.
