Soak Inside David Hockney’s Giant Paintings At New Floor-To-Ceiling Showcase

Drawn from his personal life, David Hockney’s famous pop-art paintings invite their beholder to step into his world. Soon, art enthusiasts can set this mental snapshot into motion at London’s new immersive art space, Lightroom, which opens at King’s Cross with the Hockney retrospective.
The alluring exhibit, entitled David Hockney: Bigger & Closer (not smaller & further away), will transport guests right into the British painter’s colorful works of a swimming pool, a forest, the Grand Canyon, and more, allowing them to see these scapes through his eyes. His highly-coveted paintings have been given the “Van Gogh” treatment via tall walls, a bespoke score by Nico Muhly, and narration by the artist himself.

Split into six themed chapters, the showcase will walk visitors through Hockney’s illustrious career and deep-dive into his life-long experimentation with new media.
By the looks of this wholesome preview, the installation is evidently Hockney-approved.
The artist is known to trade the paint brush for interesting new mediums. Before, he looked at photography as a way to draw with a camera. These days, he’s been creating from his iPad.
The experience will open from January 25 through April 23, 2023. Guests can expect to immerse themselves for about 45 minutes, though they can soak in Hockney’s pool and other works for as long as they wish.
