Crystal-Clear Mechanical Keyboard Makes It Look Like You’re Typing On Ice

Everyone knows somebody who swears by their mechanical keyboard. But forget those—this one might be the coolest of them all, if only for the fact that it looks refreshingly like a tray of ice cubes (but don’t be tempted to spill your drink on it).

Lofree, known for its mechanical keyboards, has rolled out an ultra-minimalist variation that’s fully transparent, from the chassis to the keycaps. The glacial array looks its most enigmatic with the white LED backlight on, making your room feel as though you’re walking in an icy cave. In total, it features seven built-in LED effects.

The Lofree 1% Transparent Mechanical Keyboard, which has also been likened to bubble wrap, gets its ‘1%’ title from Lofree’s barebones keyboard series. Living up to its icy appeal, the keyboard retains a smooth, fingerprint-free exterior even with everyday use, thanks to its pad printing and UV coating.

Those who despise drinking water and are thirsting for a little more (soda) pop of color on their desk space will probably lean toward the ‘Orange Soda’ variant, which consists of a glassy, ice-cold aquatic hue with a splash of orange on the alphanumeric keys.

In terms of specs, the 68-key mechanical keyboard is cushioned with a silencing cotton-padded layer in between the PCB plate and the bottom plate, creating gentle and soft acoustics rather than sharp clickety-clacks. It supports dual connectivity for Bluetooth V5.1 wireless and wired USB Type-C connections.

Replacing the switches is easy, says Lofree, as the keyboard uses full-key hot-swappable sockets, which require no soldering. “Simply pull out the stock switches and push the new ones in,” it says.
