Bosch Designs Rideshare Dashboard Camera With Its Own Secret SOS Button

Dashboard cameras have become almost a staple in most vehicles, providing irrefutable evidence after an incident. So far, they have proven valuable for on-road accidents and even during emergencies that happen while a car is stationary or parked.

Bosch, on the other hand, is asking a separate question: how about altercations that take place within the car instead?
 
The answer is a two-way cam that can simultaneously video what happens outside and inside the car to keep drivers, especially private hire drivers, safe.

 
‘RideCare’ comes with all the same functions as an average dashboard camera, including motion and noise sensors that trigger footage to be stored of an incident that has taken place externally of the car. However, its inner-facing camera will do the same for any disputes between driver and passenger. 

It even comes with a handy discreet SOS button, much like some shops have on hand to alert the authorities without being noticed.

That being said, the button isn’t a direct line to the police but instead will connect the driver to Bosch’s call center, where one of its trained staff will immediately be given access to a live feed of both cameras. And if things escalate, Bosch’s team can notify the authorities and send them to the car’s location.

The teaser video from Bosch shows that emergencies don’t only include situations where the driver’s safety is at risk but the passengers’ as well. For example, a companion app can be used to contact the call center to ask for an ambulance for a passenger who is going into labor.
 
The inward-facing camera and button could help reduce the risk of harm to employees’ safety and reputation by providing evidence that an incident was not their fault and a helpline if they cannot use their phones.
