Designers and creatives, say hello to PlasticFree, an online platform developed to give plastic-free alternatives to materials used in packaging.

The website was created by the global campaign organization, A Plastic Planet (APP), with the help of 40 designers, scientists, business leaders, and material experts.

A sustainable future free of plastic packaging begins with designers’ hands and their choices when coming up with new projects. PlasticFree acknowledges that looking for alternatives outside of good ol’ plastic can be daunting, and that is why the platform is here to educate and provide proper advice and tips for incorporating sustainable materials.

The website currently hosts over 100 case studies touting the benefits of incorporating eco-friendly materials into projects. These include the use of algae, seaweed, bamboo, and aluminum.

On top of that, there is also a dashboard that is constantly updated with news of other brands or creators in the industry who have successfully incorporated these future-proof materials into their projects. What’s more, teams can also come together and collaborate on the site for an accessible all-in-one workstation.

PlasticFree says that its website will be able to help 160 million creatives worldwide. While it seems promising, it remains to be seen how well people adapt to using this archive of sustainable information and whether it will truly impact our Earth. Nonetheless, it’s still a good step in the right direction.

Creatives looking to participate in the platform can do so for a yearly subscription of US$303.
