Apple Is Reportedly Working On A Touchscreen MacBook Pro

Just after rumors surfaced that Apple was looking to manufacture its own modem chips for the iPhone, here’s another big change that could be coming to the technology giant’s lineup: touchscreen MacBooks. 

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, sources believe the new iteration of laptops, which would be a huge departure from its usual position, could hit shelves in just two years’ time. Although, as with all its other innovations, plans have yet to be finalized. 

As Engadget pointed out, the technology firm has long taken the stance of leaving touchscreens to its variety of iPads, but while incorporating the technology into a larger MacBook is rather unexpected, fans shouldn’t expect too much of a change design-wise. 

The sources revealed the alleged touchscreen iteration of the MacBook Pro would “likely” still run on the usual macOS, and come with the typical trackpad and keyboard. A key difference, like other touchscreen laptops on the market, would be the additional display tabs and gestures. 

Insiders said that it’s possible the company could eventually decide to expand its touchscreen technology to over Mac models in the future, but has no plans on integrating macOS and iPadOS, in fear of possibly spelling the end of the iPad. 

Touchscreens aside, the firm has plans to switch its Mac displays from LCDs over to OLEDs, which it already uses for most of its devices. 

Will we really see a MacBook Pro with iPhone and iPad-like features in the near future? If the rumors are true, then Apple is moving away from founder Steve Jobs’ opinion of not believing in vertical touch surfaces.
