Hyundai Showcases ‘Crab-Walking’ Concept Car To Save You From Parallel Parking

Hyundai has just revealed its progress with its e-Corner technology, which allows cars to “crab walk” out of a tight spot without the driver having to whip out any expert maneuvers to do so.

The concept vehicle was demonstrated on the Ioniq 5 EV, where viewers were treated to the car being able to move from side to side as it walked across the demo floor. The automobile does so by employing Crab Driving which turns its wheels into 90-degree angles via in-wheel motors to allow it to scoot out of the spot it’s in. In essence, parallel parking woes would be miles away with the introduction of this new upgrade. 

The mode lets the car not only move sideways or diagonally, but drivers can make a zero turn and even perform donuts on the road with a pivot feature. 

 Sideways driving technology is not quite a novel idea. According to Digital Trends, Hyundai has been tossing the idea around for the last five years, and this will mark the first time the company is showcasing physical progress.
 

Hyundai expects development to wrap up within the first half of 2023 before hitting the roads in the next couple of years.
