Uber, Hertz Deliver 25K Electric Vehicles To Europe For Drivers To Rent

Uber and Hertz are giving drivers in Europe a chance to rent an electric vehicle to encourage the shift from gas-powered to electric cars.
 
The move started last year in North America, where 50,000 drivers have taken part in the initiative and rented out Teslas through the program. 
 
Before that, in 2020, Hertz announced that it was aiming to have an all-electric fleet of cars and placed an order for 100,000 Tesla Model 3 vehicles.
 
When it comes to ride-sharing, there is still much room for improvement in cutting back on emissions. It’s not an easy task to convince employees to go out and purchase their own Tesla or any other EV, as most come with a premium price tag. In order to soften the financial blow, Uber has instead come up with a way for its drivers to “own” one and cut down on emissions simultaneously.
 
The program’s expansion will see 25,000 Tesla Model 3, Model Y, and Polestar 2 employed around London, with other cities such as Paris and Amsterdam to follow by 2025.
 
As a society, we still have a long way to go to adapt to electric cars fully. Aside from being faced with lofty price tags, many drivers still cling to the joys of owning a gas-powered vehicle that often performs better than EVs. Hopefully, this initiative will make the ever-growing ride-sharing market just a tad more sustainable.
