Apple Refreshes MacBook & Mac Mini Lineup With M2 Chips That Last Almost All Day

Apple’s MacBook and Mac Mini series are being upgraded and revamped this new year with new M2 chips that ensure faster performance from the device.
 
The new processors will be coming to the MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch models, which were first released in late 2021. Both will be embedded with the M2 Pro and M2 Max.
 
The new chips are a more powerful version of last year’s M2 processor, which featured an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU. The latest iteration adds even more cores with a 5-nanometer chip manufacturing process resulting in a 12-core CPU and 19-core GPU paired with 32GB unified memory. 

As a result, the new notebooks are capable of up to a 20% performance increase compared to the M1. In addition, graphic performance is also bumped up by up to 30%.
 
The M2 Max takes it up a notch in the graphics department as it boasts a 38-core GPU and 96GB unified memory, which acts as RAM. This amps up its power when handling machine learning or video rendering.
 
In terms of battery life, the processors promise to have the longest battery life in a Mac. Previously the laptops would last for 19 to 20 hours, but the new refreshed versions can last for almost 22 hours.
 
Lastly, the MacBooks have an all-new “advanced HDMI” that can host 8K external displays at 60Hz.

For those who prefer working with a desktop, the Mac Mini is finally getting an upgrade, and Apple enables it with the M2 processor and the M2 Pro.
 
“The new M2 Pro chip delivers pro-level performance to Mac mini for the first time, enabling users to run high-performance workflows that were previously unimaginable in such a compact design,” the company says.
 
The MacBooks are coming in at US$1,999 for the 14-inch and US$2,499 for the 16-inch. The Mac Mini will retail at US$1,299. All three will go on sale on January 24.
