If you’re someone who gets irked by slow walkers, you may be glad to hear that one French company is looking for a way to increase the speeds of commuters.

‘Rollkers’ are an attachment that essentially turns the pavement beneath your feet into endless conveyor belts. These “skates” come with sensors to identify if their wearer is walking, running, jumping, or standing still. And yes, you can do more than walk with the Rollkers.

The attachment aims to give its user an easier and faster way to get around. In order to protect you from falling over if you’re running after your bus, it uses the sensors to employ the right amount of thrust or braking power to prevent the wearer from losing balance.

The tracks move along with you to create this interesting blend of walking and cruising simultaneously. That might sound like some tricky maneuvers you’d have to pull out of the bag, but according to the company, no training is required before use.

Rollkers come with rubber tracks to follow the movement of your feet to give a more natural feeling. With that, the device can increase your walking speed to 7 mph.

Despite its promises of an easier time traversing your city, it does have some drawbacks. Firstly, each side weighs 9.9 lbs, which probably won’t make for a very comfortable experience after a long while. Next, the device doesn’t seem to be made for whole day use as it can only last 30 minutes on a single charge.

The Rollkers could be hitting the pavement sometime in 2023 at an estimated price of US$700.
