Cozy Cafe In Vietnam Ditches Tables And Chairs To Let You Sip Coffee In Beds

Kick back and snuggle up to a cup of Vietnamese coffee in this new café that takes a rather relaxed approach to its interiors by chucking out tables and chairs and swapping them for beds instead.
 
The Chidori café finds its home in an old tube apartment building in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. These apartments typically have a long narrow shape that often runs deep. The studio cites inspiration from “Hem” alleys, where old and new cultures converge. 

It was designed by Studio Anettai to offer a reprieve in the middle of the city for people to truly relax and reconnect with friends and loved ones in a safe space. 

The cafe’s interior looks a little like an upscale hostel or a capsule hotel in Japan, except here, you’ll only be staying for the duration of your cup of coffee and not for the night. Double beds are placed inside little nooks where patrons can nestle into and lie down, read a book, do some work, or chat comfortably with their coffee dates.

Customers can draw a privacy curtain to shelter them from other patrons if they wish to lay down or keep it open and bask in some people watching.

Studio Anettai has chosen a combination of wood, bricks, and warm ambient lighting to turn the place into a cozy little haven in the city that people can call home for an afternoon.

It is interesting to see how design studios and businesses are responding to this growing need to help nurture and provide safe spaces for young people to escape to, especially after the last three years of the pandemic that has pushed the need for privacy away from the other members of your household. Only time will tell if such a trend will take off worldwide, where people can find a little peace while sipping on their coffees.
