Audi’s New Rugged EV Concept Dons Headsets For Crossing Off-Road & AR Terrains
Audi has just debuted its fourth EV in its concept range first announced in 2021. The project aimed to envision electric cars from different and innovative angles and develop feasible designs to take the roads one day.
This version, called ‘Activesphere’, takes on a more rugged angle on EVs packaged with a convertible “active bed,” which transforms its trunk into a pickup bed for storing your sports gear and even your dirt bikes. The features are also designed for the vehicle to be taken entirely off-road because that’s where the real adventure begins, isn’t it?
Inside the cabin, however, Audi is looking to the future with AR glasses for drivers.
Drivers can see vital performance figures & car metrics, while passengers can use them for infotainment purposes or virtual assistant controls. The AR glasses can even be used outside the car and on a biking trail, to navigate features such as monitoring health indexes.
And, of course, no futuristic concept car will not be complete with auto driving.
In this case, it has Level 4 autonomy, and when the driver takes a break, the steering wheel and pedals will move out of the way to give them space to do their own thing. But they will lift back up once ready to retake the helm. (The automaker did note that it’s probably best to keep your hands on the wheel when you’re going off-road, though.)
Audi predicts that such a vehicle will have a range of 327 miles and could employ a fast 270kW charging.
At this point, Activesphere remains a concept that might only exist in the dreams of car-loving explorers. However, that is not to say that certain aspects will not influence the makeup of Audi’s future vehicles.
