Fendi Factory Seamlessly Flows Into Countryside With Its Landscape Roof
Blending into the picturesque Italian countryside is the latest factory for the luxury label Fendi, which is complete with a sprawling landscape-filled roof, the greens merging with the surroundings.
The building, designed by Milan-based architecture studio Piuarch, is located in Bagno a Ripoli, which is tucked away in the region of Tuscany. Prior to the project, this plot of land was in a state of neglect after the closure of a nearby quarry.
However, as per New Atlas, after landscape architect Antonio Perazzi took over the entire area, it now boasts 17 acres of stunning scenery, all of which is reflected in the factory’s earth-tone façade and green rooftop.
The structure, which spans over 150,000 square feet, is laid out over one level, apart from a canteen that overlooks the green roof. Its spacious interior is broken up into several courtyards, allowing for most of it to bathe in natural light.
According to the studio, the building’s confines will be home to management and administrative offices, a restaurant, a production warehouse, workshops, and even a school for haute leather goods.
At its core, the design and landscaping choice of creating a green roof was born from the idea of creating “an integrated ecological system that recreates the contours of the land to restore the shape of the original hillside.”
Not only will the rooftop garden serve its environmental purpose, but it will also take on a “social and community role” where employees can gather in a “user-friendly space” to socialize.
