Toyota Joins The E-Bike Sphere With Its Very First Cargo-Ready Rider

If you’re in the market for an electric bicycle by an established automaker, you’d be spoiled for choice. However, car companies are realizing fast that the future looks more and more like a two-wheeled electric vehicle. The latest manufacturer to jump onto the bandwagon—or the e-bike, so to say—is Toyota.
 
Toyota has teamed up with French e-bike company DOUZE Cycles to deliver a bicycle that can act as a small van.

The DOUZE Cycles x La mobilité Toyota cargo e-bike is based on DOUZE’s Hêta model, which features an 850 mm load platform in the front that can carry up to 220 lbs worth of load. This includes any goods you need to transport, and even children, as it comes with a passenger bucket for three kids or one adult.
 
A Yamaha mid-drive motor powers up the vehicle, and thanks to its 500 Wh battery, it has a range of 62 miles when on pedal assist.

On the website, DOUZE Cycles states that the two-wheeler comprises of detachable components crafted from polymer and recycled materials. When one breaks, users are encouraged to replace the part instead of the whole bicycle.

Toyota might have previously shied away from going all in in the EV sector, but that looks to be changing with recent developments including a new project that can turn its vintage models into eco-friendly cars. That being said, the bike will only be available in France through a dealer.
