New Movie Studio Is A ‘Vertical Village’ On Waterfront, Stacked With Stages
A 330,000-square-foot building on the waterfront in Red Hook, Brooklyn, is now home to movie studios Samson Stages, with the US$400 million project poised to create a new public park, hire hundreds of local workers, and boost New York’s growing movie and television industry.
The site, designed by Bjarke Ingels Group, is envisioned as a “dynamic vertical village,” of which the structure was constructed by stacking eight stages atop of one another. Green terraces sprawl across the levels, with the picturesque waterfront view to complete the picture.
According to the Samson Stages, which works on projects starring Hollywood A-listers such as Ryan Reynolds and Bruce Springsteen, the new building will include a lobby entrance and cafe, together with new soundstages and studios.
“The new addition to Samson Stages will create jobs, will give the neighborhood a new waterfront park, and will continue to make New York the center of TV and film production,” says Sam Geiger, co-founder of Samson Stages.
