Part of the trivia fun in opening a Snapple has to be the random nugget of knowledge tucked on the underside of the caps. The Snapple Real Fact project started in 2002, entertaining customers with tidbits of information about our world, such as “beavers can hold their breath underwater for 45 minutes” and “you can’t hum while plugging your nose.”
Since its inception, the company has produced 1,677 facts, and now it looks to place the power into the hands of the people.
Snapple is introducing the Snapple fAIct Generator, which uses technology from OpenAI, ChatGPT’s creator, that lets fans participate in the creation process.
In a press release(partly written by ChatGPT and edited by Snapple’s team), the company details that users can get started by scanning a QR code on the bottles or visiting snapplefAIcts.com. Upon entering the website, users will be given the option to write an “absurd” fact about, say, strawberries.
As a disclaimer, the company warns that as an AI produces the information, the text may be inaccurate or even inappropriate, depending on your question. Oh, and you are cautioned not to use any real names and brands.
With this, the days of passing the cap around to your buddies to share what has been written there might also be behind you as the new system can directly share your fact to social media. Snapple might also be snatching some of these fan-generated points up and placing them under bottle caps in 2024.
Meanwhile, in other parts of the ChatGPTsphere, the robot has just proved its smarts and passed the US Medical Licensing Exam.
