Your Empty Amazon Delivery Boxes Can Be Sent Forward To Help People In Need

Do you have too many Amazon shipping boxes lying around? As it turns out, you can reuse them to put that iconic smile on someone’s face, while also tidying up your space and keeping waste out of landfills.

A nonprofit called Give Back Box has been working with the e-commerce giant to collect boxes of preloved items for free and give them to people in need. The service, which has been around since 2012, was recently discovered by Apartment Therapy on a TikTok video by @caseyyisfetchh.

The premise for the initiative is simple. You empty out an old cardboard box—it doesn’t have to be Amazon-branded—and fill it with clothes, toys, books, small electronics, jewelry, or other usable belongings you don’t want anymore. The items will either be sold to raise funds for meaningful causes or handed down to people who may need them, such as families whose homes have been destroyed by natural disasters.

Then, print a shipping label from the Give Back Box website. You can also choose your preferred charity here, or have a cause selected for you. Some of the communities the organization is currently helping out include survivors of the Turkey-Syria earthquake and Ukrainian refugees in Poland.

You can pack up to 70 pounds of items into each box. After which, drop off the package with the shipping label at a UPS or US Postal Service, or request a free pickup.

According to the website, Give Back Box has repurposed and shipped over a million boxes since 2012, as well as saved more than 19 million articles of clothing from being tossed away too prematurely. In 2019, it also teamed up with LEGO to donate 50,000 pounds of used bricks to children in need of play.

For those living outside of the US, Give Back Box also has outfits in Canada and the UK.
