Humanist technologist Mica Le John and music art director Michael Taylor created the app where users are transported into a hyperrealistic 3D world that allows them to customize their appearance. Skin tones, hair colors, facial features, and clothes from existing fashion brands such as Phlemuns and Dydos are available for users to play around with.
On top of that, the app’s beta version even includes AR-based content to be shared on social media so that even if you can’t live your truth in the real world, you can live it in the digital world at least.
According to Dazed, the founders note that identity is vital in one’s life, especially for the younger generation. However, body autonomy and financial means often place the spirits of many into a certain box where they have to conform to some standard. Young people constantly cannot experiment with hairstyles, tattoos, and fashion, so Idoru provides an avenue to test the waters regarding who they perceive themselves to be.
