Saddle stools are a great choice for workspaces, hair salons, and doctor’s offices, as they allow one to wheel around the room with ease. In addition, they are designed to let your spine sit in its natural ‘S’ curve or neutral spine.
For their name, though, most of these stools take after bike seats and their ergonomic shape that keeps cyclists comfortable during long rides. This stool from Opinion Ciatti takes a rather literal approach to its design.
The idea for the ‘Pepe’ saddle stool first came from Raffaella Mangiarotti, who was heavily inspired by horse saddles. The chair’s shape takes on a replica of the horse-riding tool, except it can stand upright and support the weight of an adult.
The Pepe is made from hand-stitched leather upholstery, which is stretched over a sled base.
“Pepe has a strong character and an unyielding temperament. Pepe has personality. Pepe is sure to spice up any environment, just as the spice it is named after does with your dishes,” says the design house.
If that doesn’t convince you, how about the fact that sitting on this could help strengthen your core simultaneously? The Pepe can rock back and forth, allowing your pelvis to move and squeeze in a quick workout while you’re working or going about your day.
The Pepe brings a playful twist to this tried-and-tested piece of furniture and would make for a great conversation starter in your living room.
