Meta Rolls Out Paid Subscription To Verify Creators On Facebook And Instagram
It appears creators on social media platforms could soon have to shell out to have themselves verified for greater reach, as Meta is testing a subscription bundle service that pairs account verification with increased visibility and support.
Similar to when Twitter began charging for its famed blue tick, Meta Verified is a new plan that will authenticate accounts with a verified badge for all to see. The trial will first roll out in Australia and New Zealand before the company decides to expand it to the rest of the world.
According to an announcement, creators that pay for Meta Verified will receive an icon on their account that confirms they’re the real person authenticated by government identification. In addition, the firm will provide these accounts with more protection from impersonators online.

More notably, creators trying to reach their target audience online will receive increased visibility and reach with the subscription, including “prominence in some areas of the platform,” including search, comments, and recommendations.
Meta says that accounts on Facebook and Instagram that are already verified based on prior requirements will keep their existing status, including the creators’ authenticity and notability. The new plan aims to help up-and-comers grow their presence more quickly.
Beginning later this week, Meta Verified will be available for purchase on Instagram and Facebook for those in Australia and New Zealand, retailing at US$11.99 on the web and US$14.99 on iOS and Android.
