‘Jurassic Park’s Cryo-Can Now Exists, Sort Of, In Time For Its 30th Anniversary

30 years ago, Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster Jurassic Park hit the silver screen, taking fans on a wild adventure that followed a crew of abandoned characters attempting to flee an island riddled with dinosaurs.

Early in the movie, scientist Dennis Nedry is seen making a shady deal with Lewis Dodgson from Biosyn, Jon Hammond’s main competitor to his company InGen. During the transaction, Dodgson hands over a briefcase of cash and the infamous Barbasol can of shaving cream that could be unscrewed at the bottom to reveal a holder for a series of vials. The idea behind this is for Nedry to sneak some embryos onto the main island of Isla Nublar while keeping them chilled.

And to ensure he’s not caught, it could still spew out shaving cream to throw off suspicion. Of course, the plan doesn’t go accordingly, and in Nedry’s haste to leave the island, he loses the canister as it gets buried under a slew of mud, leaving audiences never to see it again.

Until now, that is, where it could very well end up in your own hands. ParagonFX closely recreated the prop alongside Amblin Entertainment and Universal to design a replica outfitted with a detachable centrifuge and vials of fake embryos labeled with the proper inventory tags. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to get any shaving cream out of this version (or any dinosaur embryos), and its only use is to sit as a cool conversation piece in your home.

The Barbasol can retails for US$399, and reservations for the prop have begun.
