If you’ve recently opened the Uber app, you may have realized it looks a little different—or a lot. For the first time in years, the ride-hailing company has rolled out a major redesign of its home screen, with new features for user convenience.

The revamped interface makes it simpler for users to book a ride, order a meal on Uber Eats, and track orders while they’re en route. ‘Rides’ and ‘Delivery’ options will appear at the top so one can easily toggle between the two options with one tap.

In addition, the updated home screen will feature a brand-new ‘Services’ option at the bottom, which allows users to access all of Uber’s services within the area, such as on-demand flower delivery or e-scooter rental.

One major highlight of the revamp is that users will no longer need to unlock their iPhones to check on driver’s details or delivery status while on the go. Instead, the app integrates with iOS 16 to offer live updates via the Live Activities function.

Simply look down at the lock screen and there’ll be all the information needed without having to venture into the app. According to Mashable, a similar feature will soon be added to Android smartphones in the coming weeks.

Another updated feature helps users quickly select their next destination. Just by tapping on the ‘Where to?’ button on the home screen, one will have access to all of the ‘Saved Places’, including a personalized list of suggestions and ride types.

Uber said it formatted the suggestions according to users’ past trips, preferences, and “most likely” destinations. So if you’re heading from the office back home, chances are you won’t have to re-enter the addresses over and over.

There’s no doubt the significant redesign will help make Uber a simpler, more intuitive app to use. And if this is just the start, imagine what other useful functions could roll out in the near future.
