Leica Commemorates 60 Years Of ‘James Bond’ With 007-Themed Camera

In celebration of 60 years of high-speed thrilling adventures set against sultry locations and one of the world’s most famed fictional spies, James Bond, Leica has unveiled a limited version of its D-Lux 7 camera.

The new D-Lux 7 007 edition has a large image sensor, Leica’s DC Vario-Summilux Lens, and a rhombus-textured material to enhance a user’s grip. However, its most striking feature is perhaps its lens cap, which recreates the iconic gun-barrel design seen in the opening sequence of every James Bond movie.

The camera comes housed in a unique leather case that takes on the shape of a gun holster for easy access so that any budding spy-slash-photographer will be ready to aim and shoot the perfect image.

And just like the spy it was inspired by, fans of Leica and the show will have to display ultra-quick reflexes in picking one of these cameras up as Leica will only make 1,962 iterations. The specific number is a nod to the first Bond film Dr. No which was released in 1962 and starred Sean Connery. The set will be sold globally at Leica stores and online for US$2,131.

Leica has also teamed up with EON Productions for a photography exhibition showcasing some of the series’ most memorable images. Photographs from the James Bond Archive will be held at the Leica Gallery London until March 21, 2023.
