It’s no secret the cost-of-living crisis has hit hard, with a quarter of households in the United Kingdom regularly running out of money for essentials. According to The Guardian, a survey found that 40% of people end the month with little or no money left.
To combat the rising costs of food—which has resulted in one in seven Brits skipping meals to save money—Uncommon London has launched the Yellow Sticker Cookbook, which helps home cooks quickly string together a meal using everyday discounted food items.
When at the grocery store, users simply have to scan the reduced items at the clearance section on their smartphones, and key in any other ingredients they may have at home. Then, the website generates recipe options that combine all the available foods into a hearty meal.
This idea, which was devised by Uncommon Creative Studio’s CX practice, uses Google Vision API—allowing for the application to tailor its suggestions to each user by identifying the ingredients without users having to type them in individually.
Uncommon founder Jonathan Goodman told Design Week that the studio purposefully released the tool “at a time of year when people might be feeling the pinch more than ever,” and wanted the experience to be “as easy and intuitive as possible” so it could be used by the masses.
