Can’t seem to shake the habit of doom-scrolling, even when you’re out running errands? Mercedes-Benz may be feeding into your habits while you wait in your car with its incoming infotainment system that will host the TikTok app on its dashboards.
The new feature—available for all new E-Class cars later this year—will allow drivers and passengers to scroll through their individual For You Pages (FYP) on the dashboard. This is made possible thanks to the new upgraded infotainment system, MBUX, which will span the length of the entire dashboard and seeks to diversify its capabilities as it goes up against other competitors in the market, such as Tesla. With this, the company has essentially made it easier for third-party apps to be hosted on its in-car entertainment system.
In order to ensure that the driver is not distracted by the new feature, the system will only allow those behind the wheel to enter the app once the vehicle is parked.
Outside of that, if a passenger is scrolling away on their side of the car, the new dashboard has a system that blocks those driving from seeing what the person next to them is doing—passengers can then browse without worrying that the person driving is being distracted. The MBUX even has an eye-tracker that alerts the driver if they look away for too long.
Aside from TikTok, the company is likewise integrating Google Maps, Zoom, Angry Birds, Vivaldi Web browser, and Webex by Cisco into its MBUX.
