Jewelry Company Reworks Old Classic DVDs Into Statement Earrings
With the emergence of streaming sites over the last decade, DVD players have taken a backseat to make way for the new age of digital content. That means tons of DVDs are collecting dust with no prospect of ever being used again. However, these disks might be a useful asset for one Paris-based accessory company, just not in the way one would expect.
Say hello to DVD earrings, because, why not? Stéphanie D’hygere, the founder of D’hygere, tells Wallpaper she was inspired by her old collection of movies that she was hesitant to part ways with but which was taking up space in her apartment.
Instead of turning them into sun catchers or using them as decorations elsewhere, the firm repurposes vintage tech as the perfect match to an outfit. In order to make them wearable, the company has cut out a piece of the disk at the top and slotted in a sterling silver cast and earring post. Unfortunately, this would mean you won’t be able to watch what’s on it anymore. But you will get a piece of jewelry that will surely turn some heads.
Depending on its wearer, one can use it on the side with the movie’s original design plastered, or you can also use it on the side with just the plain reflective surface.
The collection currently has titles such as Alien, Seven, Bisounours, Fantastic Planet, Blade Runner, and Moon.
The pieces can be purchased on the D’hygere website for €160 (US$169) and will soon be sold at retailers.
