As Adidas strives to take its innovation to the next level in pursuit of designing “the perfect shoe,” fans of the brand’s iconic Ultraboost sneakers will have a new iteration of the franchise to choose from: the Ultraboost Light.
Created a decade after the company first showcased its Ultraboost technology, the improved shoes boast 30% lighter BOOST material in its core, allowing runners to experience greater performance with “epic energy, ultimate cushioning, unrivaled comfort, and responsiveness.”
To achieve this, the designers at Adidas worked on redesigning the Linear Energy Point (LEP) found on the sole of its sneakers, with the updated version of the feature optimizing responsiveness and working in harmony with the lighter material.
In addition, the Ultraboost Light shoes feature an upper built out of PRIMEKNIT+, providing breathability through a fit that adapts to the wearer’s feet. The shoes’ continental natural performance rubber makes it possible to run with traction even when it’s slippery and wet out.
According to the data on Adidas’ product page, the new sneakers weigh 2.7 ounces lighter than their predecessors and are manufactured with a 10% lower carbon footprint for greater sustainability.
“At Adidas, we know that running is personal. Everyone has a different goal and therefore, different requirements for their shoes,” explained Simon Lockett, Footwear Product Marketing Category Director at Adidas.
“Now, thanks to our ground-breaking material innovation—Light BOOST—runners retain the existing benefits of running in an Ultraboost, but with the bonus of a lighter silhouette,” he added.
The new Ultraboost Lightretails at €190 (US$201) in a white colorway, with solar red and core black detailing. A special-edition version for the 10th anniversary of BOOST comes in black with additional black and yellow detailing—a nod to the first-ever shoe made with the technology.
