Hyundai Unveils Genesis G80 Electrified That Lets You Drive In Utter Peace

Electric vehicles are generally quiet cars, thanks to the fact that traditional gas-powered engines have been swapped out for batteries instead. As a result, the usual roar of a motor and the sounds of the exhaust pipes are missing. But without them, drivers become more susceptible to the distracting racket of driving over roads.

In Hyundai’s Genesis G80 Electrified case, it’s offering almost pure silence as you drive. The car features an active noise cancellation feature, created by Samsung’s Harman International subsidiary, that will dampen down the sounds of the road.

Now, this is not a new invention; other car makers have also employed this technology in their electric cars. However, Hyundai posits that its version is more capable than the rest. In different versions, the road noise control might only be able to handle one or two peak frequencies which are limited in really hushing the world outside.

In this instance, designnews.com notes that Hyundai can reduce sounds by 500 Hz. The noise produced by jolts is detected by an accelerometer which sends that information to a digital signal processor (DSP). This then emits an out-of-phase noise-canceling wave from the car’s speakers to quieten the cabin. It also uses microphones within the vehicle to ensure nothing seeps through.

Per the same report, it’s said that the noise of the road from the chassis travels to a person’s ears within 0.009 seconds. The system, however, can emit its noise-canceling sound wave in 0.002 seconds.

But this doesn’t mean you’ll need to be left alone to the voices in your head as you drive. The car also offers ‘Sounds of Nature’, which features… well, the sounds of nature, like rainfall, birds chirping, and even a crackling fire to get you through the cold winter months.

Regarding the vehicle, the Genesis G80 Electrified is a luxury sedan with an all-wheel electric drivetrain that generates 365 horsepower and is fueled by an 87.2-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. When using 19-inch wheels, the G80 can average 2.7 miles per kWh.
