BMW Dreams Up E-Scooter For Younger Riders That Has Its Own Matching Surfboard

Years after custom motorcycle designers Vagabund Moto began using BMW bikes as its base of choice, the automotive engineers have finally caught the eye of the famed automaker, with the brand inviting the custom creators to come up with a one-of-a-kind BMW CE 4 electric scooter.

Paul Brauchart, founder of Vagabund Moto, described the concept scooter as the specialist’s take on a “stylish and multifunctional urban e-scooter,” explaining that an individual’s mobility needs are just as unique as one’s personality.

“We haven’t reinvented the wheel, but we have taken a new look at function. We call it drawing on the synergies between functionality and aesthetics in a way that is suitable for everyday use,” he remarked.

And aesthetically-pleasing it is. The made-in-Austria vehicle features a white, dark green, beige, and black color scheme, complete with functional elements designed to look fresh and modern—appealing towards the youth as its target group of riders.

Take a look at the scooter’s wheels, and instead of the boring, all-black tyres you’d expect, a friendly smiley face is there to greet you, a touch that the company purposefully placed on the front wheel hub and the glass of the indicator lights.

The vehicle itself is impressive, as the BMW CE 04 boasts 31 kW (42 hp) maximum output, dynamic acceleration from 0 to 50 km/h (32 m/h) in just 2.6 seconds, and the ability to charge from 0% to 80% in just over an hour.

Keeping in line with the ‘Action meets Fashion’ motto, the special scooter is topped off with a functional case to add to the existing storage space, and has even received its own matching surfboard that can be driven around thanks to the integrated transport system in the vehicle.

Explaining that the surfboard isn’t meant to just be a piece of sports equipment, Oliver Balzer, Head of BMW Motorrad Austria, said that the complementary addition is a metaphor for a sustainable urban lifestyle.

“The fresh, modern design of the CE 04 is particularly in keeping with its aspiration to a sporty lifestyle… The BMW CE 04 Vagabund Moto Concept combines work, leisure, and individual flair, demonstrating that there needs to be no contradiction between any of these areas,” he added.
