A hidden farmers market invites guests to peruse through its shelves, learn about healthy eating, and walk away with a basket of fresh food for free.
Snack food company KIND Healthy Snacks and television personality Padma Lakshmi set up the project to instill a better understanding of nutrition and the right types of meals that people should be eating.
In an interview with Well+Good, Lakshmi notes that Americans are stuck in what she describes as a “real food desert” where there isn’t much access to actual nutritious ingredients. She also touches on the fact that it’s much cheaper to go to a restaurant and eat out than to have a fridge stocked with healthy produce.
This is where KIND’s free-food-for-all initiative comes in; those who visit the market can pick up whatever they need without worrying about the cost. In doing so, it might spark a better connection between people and fresh produce and teach them that eating healthy is a lifestyle choice one must make and can be achieved.
For those looking to visit the farmers market, it will be hosted in New York and Houston, Texas. Unfortunately, the New York location closed its doors after its two-day pop-up event. But if you’re near Houston, it will open its doors on March 11 at M-K-T.
