However, this time, it seems that the 911 calls were unwarranted and that the Ghostfaces seen wandering around were just actors hired as part of the production company’s attempt at drawing interest before the movie hits cinemas.
Funnily enough, the official Ghostface Twitter account seems to have joined in on the act, commenting on tweets about the mysterious sightings with witty remarks such as “I was just minding my own business” and “I’m watching you.”
The publication noted that this wasn’t the first time Paramount used a similar marketing strategy. Previously, it had created an immersive campaign to promote the psychological horror film Smile, with actors flashing creepy grins behind the home plate at Major League Baseball games.
