FC Barcelona is getting the ball rolling with a new, inclusive addition to its brand colors, announced in time for International Women’s Day on March 8.
The Spanish soccer club has teamed up with PANTONE to roll out ‘Lila Barça’ (‘Barça Lilac’), which it says is its “symbolic color for equality.” Extending beyond the confines of Women’s Day, which has passed, the team has officially added Barça Lilac to its universal color guide to eternalize its goal of leveling the playing field between men and women.
As an icon of gender equity, Barça Lilac swirls FC Barcelona’s original blue and maroon hues to illustrate finding a middle ground.
Members of the men’s team were first spotted with the PANTONE match when they posed with a vibrant sign—reading “Equality is in our colors”—ahead of their match against Valencia CF on March 5. The color is also splashed across the club’s social media channels.
Barça Lilac will continue to illuminate the club’s men’s and women’s matches this month.
