Rimowa Tunes Into Its Musical Side With Sleek Case For 286-Year-Old Violin

The symphonic world of music is gaining a new and stylish way to cart around instruments thanks to a special-edition Rimowa x GEWA Violin Case in Silver.
 
The piece looks just like any of its iconic cases do, with a silver finish and textured lines marking its maker’s touch. However, its inside has been crafted to gently cradle precious instruments, including a violin made in 1737.

French violinist Renaud Capuçon, a friend of the brand, had the pleasure of first testing the case out as he traveled with his 286-year-old Panette Stern violin made by Guarneri ’del Gesù to New York for a performance. Such a precious piece as this required extra care.

The brand partnered with GEWA, a German musical instrument and accessories manufacturer, to develop its interior. Inside, the microfiber lining can adjust itself to hold 4/4 and 3/4 violins ideally, but it can also take any size. Housed within it are a hygrometer and a humidifier to keep instruments such as the Panette Stern safe and primed for a recital.

It has extra internal storage and a detachable strap and is secured via two TSA-approved locks.
 
The case will be available in limited quantities from March 30 online at a going rate of US$5,020.
